Our story

Built for beginners, and  everyone after

We were supposed to be looking at houses that weekend. Two small children, a third on the way, and a list of open homes we were already running late for. Then Mark pulled over outside an empty shopfront and said he wanted to open a reformer studio. He had not mentioned it before. Not once.

What he described was a studio that could actually look after a beginner. Somewhere you are taught how to move, which muscles to engage, and why it matters well beyond the class. We opened on 1 November 2021, as Melbourne found its feet again after lockdown, and that is still the studio we run. First class or hundredth, rebuilding after an injury or building real strength, you are with the same team the whole way, backed by the physiotherapists at our own clinic a few doors up the street.

The people who started it

Meet Kat & Mark.

Hi, we are Kat and Mark. We live around the corner, and have three young children, and between us we have spent more than thirty years in healthcare. Return is family run, but it was never really about us. We wanted somewhere our neighbours could come and be properly looked after.

Mark is a physiotherapist and the founder of Malvern Physiotherapy Clinic, and he has spent plenty of time on the other side of it too. A few joint surgeries taught him what rehab actually feels like, which is something you only learn from the table. Kat found Pilates the way a lot of our members do, looking for a way back to strength after a back injury, in the middle of a career in neonatal intensive care nursing.

So we know how much life asks of a body. We also know how it feels to walk into a room like this unsure, quietly wondering if everyone else knows what they are doing. Whatever shape you are in when you come through our door, that is where we start.

“We built the studio we’d want our own family to train in.”

Why it’s different

Knowledge, not noise.

Plenty of studios can run you through a reformer class. Far fewer were built inside a physiotherapy practice, where understanding your body is the whole point.

Physio-informed, always.

Every instructor is trained by the physiotherapists at our sister clinic, and several are physios themselves. It’s why the cues in a Return class sound different: more specific, more clinical, more attuned to what your body is actually doing.

/02

Joined up, not bolted on.

If your body ever needs more than a class, you don’t start again from zero. The clinic is a few doors up, our teams share notes both ways with your OK, and physios teach on our timetable. One conversation, and the right care finds you.

/03

Built for every stage.

Teens to over-70s. First class to sport performance. Pregnancy to perimenopause. Our family is here to support yours.

What we stand for

Knowledge. Family.
Strength. Care.

To empower you with the strength to live your best life. Four values carry it: how we build a class, greet you at the door, and measure whether we’re doing this well.

01

Foster knowledge

Our classes draw together physiotherapists and Pilates instructors. Real expertise, shared openly and taught humbly. We offer an open door and a generosity of knowledge.

02

Embrace family

Locally owned, family run, a place with a real beating heart. Ours is a place where people come together, support one another, and feel a true sense of belonging.

03

Build strength

With strength comes freedom: the freedom to stay active and do what you love. We’re here to empower your individual journey.

04

Care

People before processes. We observe, we listen, we understand, we help, and we go further to deliver a result that’s real. No matter where you are, in your body, when you arrive.
