Find the people who care
Return is reformer Pilates grown out of a physiotherapy clinic — family-owned, physio-trained, and built for every stage of life. This is who we are, and why it works.

Our story
Born from a physio clinic.
Return grew out of Malvern Physiotherapy Clinic — and the connection never ended. The clinic is a few doors up the street. The same team works across both. What you get is a studio with clinical knowledge built in from the first class, not added on after.
We opened on the 1st of November 2021, as Melbourne found its feet again after lockdown. After nearly a decade of running the clinic, Kat and Mark kept meeting the same gap: clinical Pilates on one side, group reformer on the other, and nothing in between. Return is the bridge — one studio where a first-timer, someone rebuilding after injury, and someone chasing a personal best can each train well, and safely.

The people who started it
Meet Kat & Mark.
Return is family-owned, founded by Kat and Mark Fotheringham — married, three young children, and more than thirty years in healthcare between them.
Mark is the principal physiotherapist and founder of Malvern Physiotherapy Clinic, where Pilates became a cornerstone of how he helps people move and recover — and he’s been the patient too: multiple joint surgeries taught him what rehab feels like from the table, not just beside it. Kat came to Pilates the way many of our members do, finding her way back to strength after a back injury early in her career as a neonatal intensive-care nurse.
Between a clinic, a studio and a young family, they know exactly how much life asks of a body. That’s the studio they built: rigorous about the body, warm about the person.
“We built the studio we’d want our own family to train in.”

Why it’s different
Knowledge, not noise.
Plenty of studios can run you through a reformer class. Far fewer were built inside a physiotherapy practice — where understanding your body is the whole point.

Physio-informed, always.
Every instructor is trained by the physiotherapists at our sister clinic — and several are physios themselves. It’s why the cues in a Return class sound different: more specific, more clinical, more attuned to what your body is actually doing.
Joined up, not bolted on.
If your body ever needs more than a class, you don’t start again from zero. The clinic is a few doors up, the handover works both ways, and physios teach on our timetable. One conversation, and the right care finds you.
Built for every stage.
Teens to over-70s. First class to sport performance. Pregnancy to perimenopause. All under one roof.
What we stand for
Knowledge. Family. Strength. Care.
To empower you with the strength to live your best life. Four values carry it
— how we build a class, greet you at the door, and measure whether we’re
doing this well.
01
Foster knowledge.
Our classes draw together
physiotherapists and Pilates
instructors. Real expertise, shared
openly and taught humbly — an
open door and a generosity of
knowledge.
02
Embrace family
Locally owned, with a real sense of
heart. A place people come
together, support one another, and
feel a true sense of belonging.
03
Build strength
With strength comes freedom —
the freedom to stay active and do
what you love. We’re here to
empower your individual journey.
04
Care
People before processes. We
observe, we listen, we understand,
we help — and we go further to
deliver a result that’s real.

Grow with us
We’re always glad to hear from people who care as much as we do —
instructors, physiotherapists and front-of-house people who want to
work somewhere backed by real clinical knowledge, and a team that
feels like family.

Start with a conversation.
Tell us where your body’s at and what you’re hoping to change. A real person from the studio will point you to the right start, usually the same day.
